Koninklijke Patro Eisden Maasmechelen is a Belgian football club from the municipality of Maasmechelen in Limburg. The club play in Challenger Pro League from 2023–24, second tier of Belgian football.
History
The original club name was V.V. Patro Eisden until 1992 when it was changed to K. Patro Eisden. In 1998, it was again changed to K. Maasland Maasmechelen in the hope of gaining supporters from the whole Maasland region. In 2001 the team adopted the current name after signing a deal with Roda JC.
The club finished 17th in the 2004–05 second division season but was relegated as it did not receive the professional football license. It was suggested that the club should play in the promotion (and even in provincial leagues) as it was both sportively (17th) and financially (no license) relegated but the Belgian Football Association finally decided it must play in the third division for the 2005–06 season. The FA changed the decision eventually. Following this, the club changed its name again to K. Patro Eisden Maasmechelen starting the 2005–06 season in the fourth division.
On 20 May 2023, Patro Eisden secured the title of Belgian National Division 1 2022–23 after defeating Dessel Sport 3–0 on Final Day in Matchweek 38 and was thus promoted to Challenger Pro League from 2023–24.
O clube foi fundado inicialmente como Patro Eisden em 1942, após a fusão dos clubes Patro Eisden e Eisden Sport. O clube jogou nas divisões inferiores do futebol belga até a década de 1970, quando conseguiu chegar à Primeira Divisão pela primeira vez. O Patro Eisden permaneceu na primeira divisão por três temporadas, mas foi rebaixado para a Segunda Divisão em 1975.
Em 1997, o Patro Eisden foi rebaixado para a Terceira Divisão e, em 1999, foi rebaixado novamente para a Quarta Divisão. Em 2003, o clube faliu e foi dissolvido. No entanto, em 2004, o clube foi refundado como Patro Eisden Maasmechelen, após uma fusão com o Maasmechelen VV.
O Patro Eisden Maasmechelen começou a jogar na Quarta Divisão e, em 2008, conseguiu subir para a Terceira Divisão. Em 2012, o clube chegou à Segunda Divisão, onde permanece até hoje.
O Patro Eisden Maasmechelen nunca venceu um título nacional, mas tem uma história rica em participações nas divisões inferiores do futebol belga. O clube é conhecido por sua forte base de fãs e pela sua tradição de formar jovens jogadores.
