RFC Seraing is a Belgian association football club based in Seraing in the province of Liège. They play their home games at the Stade du Pairay. The club currently compete in Challenger Pro League, the second tier of Belgian football.
History
The club was founded in the early 20th century as RFC Bressoux, registered with the Belgian FA under matricule 23, but renamed in 1992 to Royale Union Liégeoise or RUL after a merger. Upon the default of R.F.C. Seraing in 1996, the club again renamed itself to Seraing RUL and started playing at the Stade du Pairay where the former RFC Seraing played until its default. It was however an entirely different club and completely distinct from the former RFC Seraing. Seraing RUL was at that level playing at the fourth level of Belgian football. The club would remain at the lower levels of Belgian football, never higher than the third level. It 2006, this club changed its name to RFC Seraing to recapture the past of the club whose place it took, but dropped further, even sinking to the fifth level in 2014, at which point it bought the rights (and place) of another club (Boussu Dour Borinage) to swap places. As a result, the club now carried matricule 167 (as 23 now belonged to Boussu Dour Borinage) and was able to immediately jump three levels and started the 2014–15 season in the Belgian Second Division. It started in the Second Division under the new name Seraing United, but reverted to RFC Seraing one season later. With the Belgian league reform of 2016, the club dropped back to the third level but managed to achieve promotion twice in succession in 2019–20 and 2020–21 to reach the 2021–22 Belgian First Division A, bringing back top division football to the city of Seraing after 25 years. In 2022–23 season, the club got relegated back down to Challenger Pro League. Following season, the club avoided relegation to Belgian National Division 1 from 2024–25 season after finishing 15th place in 2023–24 Challenger Pro League due to the administrative relegation of K.V. Oostende cause did not license from professional league then dissolved.
O Seraing United foi fundado em 1968 como RFC Sérésien, após a fusão de dois clubes locais, o RCS Seraing e o FC Seraing. O clube ganhou o título da Divisão 3 belga em 1973 e foi promovido à Divisão 2. Em 1982, o clube venceu a Divisão 2 e foi promovido à Primeira Divisão belga pela primeira vez.
O Seraing United permaneceu na Primeira Divisão por 11 temporadas, até ser rebaixado em 1993. O clube passou as duas temporadas seguintes na Divisão 2 antes de ser rebaixado para a Divisão 3 em 1995. O Seraing United passou 10 temporadas na Divisão 3 antes de ser promovido de volta à Divisão 2 em 2005.
O Seraing United permaneceu na Divisão 2 por três temporadas antes de ser novamente rebaixado para a Divisão 3 em 2008. O clube passou mais 10 temporadas na Divisão 3 antes de ser promovido de volta à Divisão 2 em 2018.
Em 2021, o Seraing United venceu a Divisão 2 e foi promovido à Primeira Divisão B pela primeira vez em sua história. O clube terminou em 10º lugar em sua primeira temporada na Primeira Divisão B e está atualmente competindo na segunda divisão belga.
O Seraing United é conhecido por suas cores tradicionais, azul e branco. O clube também tem um escudo que apresenta um leão vermelho em um campo azul. O leão é o símbolo da Bélgica e o escudo do Seraing United também apresenta as duas estrelas da bandeira belga.
O Seraing United é um clube relativamente pequeno no futebol belga, mas tem uma história longa e rica. O clube é conhecido por sua forte base de fãs locais e por sua dedicação ao desenvolvimento de jovens jogadores.
